Artist Statement
As a photographer I thrive on expressing human emotion through the beauty of the natural world. I enjoy the mystery and adventure involved in capturing each photograph that causes a person to stop and fully appreciate the creation of the earth that we all live on, and for a brief moment feel an emotional connection to nature.
With experience spanning from my earliest years to my adult life today I have developed an understanding and respect for many different forms of art, and have gained a great admiration for all forms of art as a personal, emotional, and spiritual experience being released for others to experience. I have developed a personal understanding of how art can shape and renew one’s life.
Growing up in the southern Utah are for the most part of my life I have been exposed to much of the magnificence that exists in the area and I have always felt a sense of emotional connection to the surrounding beauty in my own backyard. I have been blessed in my life not with the knowledge of how to create art, but with the natural eye of being able to recognize art in the natural world. Over time I have developed the knowledge and skills of how to capture the art I see in the world that surrounds us. From the knowledge that I have gained, and from the talent that I have fine-tuned through the years I have produced many award winning works of art.
My first major accomplishment that gave me great motivation to continue in my pursuit of photography was receiving the Visual Arts Sterling Scholar award at Dixie High School in 1997. From that point on I have won many numerous awards and have had my work displayed in many art galleries and banquets. I currently serve on the Washington County Arts Council and continually seek for opportunities to serve and assist other photographers in their goals. I am also continually developing growing relationships with other artists for motivation in my own work.
Photography provides a sense of peace and tranquility in my own life. It gives me an escape from the everyday life that we all get caught up in that many times makes us forget that there is some something greater out there for us to enjoy in nature. One of the greatest objectives of my work is to remind people of the beauty that exists right in our own backyard. We need to take advantage of it as much as we can. Enjoy it, and feel the pure emotion that the splendor of the natural world can inspire and bring harmony into our lives.
